External Refurbishment for the Nobu Hotel, Portman Square

UKG were retained to complete a range of external refurbishment tasks on the Nobu Hotel Portman Square, one of a group of prestigious hotels based all over London, the rest of the UK and within Europe.

Following diagrams issued to UKG by the engineers on the project, we were given the veracious location on the external facades where brick replacements and repairs were required and where steel brackets were required to be installed. When removing brickwork from these facades, we discovered concrete defects on the beams, which also required repairing.

As the external refurbishment was all at height, this project was particularly challenging as we were required to work around other trades’ work and scaffold. This meant moving our own cradles into position was a challenge, required lots of communication and very specific logistics agreed between us and all other trades to ensure the booked in moving dates weren’t missed.

This also involved our own scaffolders needing to initially install any decks for the cradles to rest on, in order to safely carry out the works and the cradles to be moved along the façade.

We also had to prioritise certain parts of the external refurbishment project as different sections of the hotel became open for occupation again to ensure that guests staying in different areas had minimal disruption to their stay and the view from their room.

A variety of Sika products were used in this external refurbishment project including Monotop 610, Monotop 615 AnchorFix-2.

Originally planned to be a 3-month project, this was extended to 4 to accommodate other trades’ cradles needing to be in a position that halted UKG works to comply with Health & Safety regulations.
